Black/Yellow Litter Pups Born July 6, 2009 -- SOLD OUT |

Sire: FC AFC Small Craft Advisory (FC AFC Teddy's Ebonstar James x FC AFC Dutchman Gold Midnite Eve MH) Rough qualified for the National Amateur Retriever Championship in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, and the National Open Retriever Championship in 2007. Although he just turned seven, Rough has over 79 Amateur All-Age points and 23.5 Open All-Age points with a total of 11 all-age wins. He is amateur trained and handled and at home is a spoiled and very friendly house dog who loves to climb into your lap for a rub. Rough has OFA Excellent Hips, normal Elbows and Eyes, and is CNM and EIC clear. He weighs in at about 80 lbs. Rough has one FC sibling and three QAA siblings. While most of Rough's pups are still under the age of two, many have derby placements and hunt test titles. His son Justifiable Homicide (see photo below) recently received a JAM in a Qualifying trial (LRC - 4/24/09) at the age of 17 months. AKC#: SR00437501 Dam: Yardley Labs Ms T-Maxx is the daughter FC AC High Tech CEO who comes from one of the most successful Labrador litters of all time, a breeding between 2xNAFC FC 2xCNAFC Ebonstar Lean Mac and NAFC FC Hattie McBunn. Six of the pups from this litter went on to become field champions. They, in turn, have sired or given birth to another 18 field champions. At 75 pounds when at training weight, Misty is a large, powerful, and beautiful black Lab who is always eager to retrieve, play, or snuggle. She is quiet in the house, and wonderful with other pets. She loves children and is very gentle, although her energy and size can sometimes intimidate smaller children who are not used to larger dogs. In the field she is focused and eager. Her line manners are excellent, her blinds solid, and she does well with all-age field trial level triples on land or water. Misty ran field trials at the Derby level in 2008 and accumulated six points with second, third and fourth place finishes along with four Judges Awards of Merit (JAMs) despite being unable to compete for most of the latter part of the season because of two freak injuries and a false pregnancy. Misty's hips are rated OFA Excellent with PennHIP scores placing her in the 90th percentile for Labs. Her elbows are OFA Normal, her eyes are clear of genetic defects, and she is CNM and EIC clear. Based on parentage, all puppies in this litter will be both CNM and EIC Clear. AKC#: SR39682301 Pups from this litter should be capable of performing well in hunt tests and field trials. They should also make outstanding hunting dogs and companions around the house. While both parents are quiet in the house and good with children, these pups should be highly athletic and are unlikely to be suitable for families that will not provide them with basic training and lots of exercise. Pups are covered by a 28 month guarantee against genetic problems of hips, elbows, eyes, CNM (Centronuclear Myopathy) and EIC (Exercise Induced Collapse) as well as a general guarantee that they are in good health at the time of delivery. Pups will receive early neurological stmulation. They will have dew claws removed, be vet examined and have initial shots, and be well socialized with children, adults, and other animals. They will be exposed to birds, water, gun fire, crates, travel in vehicles, and leashes and collars. Pups are ready to begin going to their new homes as of 8/23/09. Pups were born July 6, 2009. There are eight pups: 4 black males, 2 yellow males, 1 black female, and 1 yellow female. As of 8/20/09, one black male is available. Black pups may be yellow and/or chocolate factored. *** 14 Weeks ***
Some pictures of two of Misty's pups, Shadow (BF2) and Lanse (BM5), receiving their first exposures to pigeons since leaving the litter at seven weeks. Both delivered to hand. Both currently weigh 20-25 pounds.
***Three Months***
Spats is gone, but I took the pups from my litter by Rough out of my dog Mae down to Blue Springs Kennel where Misty is back in training and her son Lanse now lives. You can hardly tell that Misty has even been pregnant, and at three months, son Lanse is doing beautifully. It's hard to get a three month old to sit still, but I was able to capture a couple of photos of him with mom.
*** 10 Weeks ***
Only another 10 days before Spats leaves. I will miss him. He is already developing into a very nice retriever. He walks nicely on the leash, retrieves puppy bumpers to hand (most of the time), has been swimming several times (sometimes only when pushed in my "Aunt" Shadow), is fully crate trained, and is making great progress in his housetraining. He is a bit of a horse, weighing over 20 pounds and eating about four cups of food per day. However, there is no fat on him. The "Bolo" spots on his front feet give him great character as he runs showing flashes of lightening in his feet. It's neat that he shares these marks with his mom, Misty, his grandsire, FC AFC High Tech CEO, and his great grandsire, 2xNAFC 2xCNAFC FC Ebonstar Lean Mac.
*** 7 Weeks ***
At seven weeks, all the pups have been sold. "Spats" (BM1) and "Lanse" (BM5) have been sold but are the last to leave. Both pups are wonderful. Housetraining is "in progress" but they are being pretty good. I will begin more formal training over the next week, working on retrieves, sit, and walking on a lead. For now, "Aunt" Shadow is training them in the finer arts of playing with toys and wrestling....
*** 6 Weeks ***
Swimming, birds, crates, cars and steps: the socialization process gets serious (and fun). All the pups are wild, sweet, brave, and adorable. My son's wedding this week meant that the pups took a long ride in my truck down to my trainers at Blue Springs Kennel in Winslow NJ. There they got to go swimming in one of the big ponds, got to chase a pigeon their own size (he finally dove under the dock where none of the pups could catch him), and heard their first shot gun from a good distance away. Back home, they got more experience with steps and obstacles and flying through the air. Tonight the pups receive their vet exam, vaccinations and microchips so they will be ready to begin going to their new homes.

*** Day 23 **
Solid food started yesterday and tomorrow will be the first trip outside (where they will all lay like slugs in the grass, not knowing what to do). Their first food is Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy formula blended with water and Esbilac. The Esbilac will be eliminated over the next few days and the texture of the food will be allowed to become rougher as the pups grow their teeth and get used to solid food. In another 3-5 days they will be fully weaned and Misty will be allowed to retire from most of her motherly duties.
*** Pups 1-8, Day 18 ***
All pups have eyes open and are walking around. Solid food will start in a few more days.
*** Day 12 - Black Males ***
As of day 12, all the pups are now walking like blind drunks. Their eyes are still closed but should open this week.
