*** Going Home - 7 Weeks *** Maggie (YF9) and Homer (YM11) at their new homes. All the pups are now gone with the exception of Bella (YF10) who will be staying with me to be trained for competition. As of yesterday -- seven weeks and two days -- Bella was retrieving live pigeons to hand so she seems to be living up to her breeding. As people send me photos, I will continue to post them here as a record of the progress of this litter.

***Pups at 6 Weeks -- Almost Ready to Leave*** The pups were six weeks old as of Sunday and will soon be readying to go to their new homes. We spent Saturday at Blue Springs Kennel in Winslow, NJ where my own dogs are trained. It gave the pups some fresh fields to run in and ponds to at least wade in. I didn't push them to actually swim since temperatures are now a little chilly for such young dogs. Driving down to Winslow with 12 puppies and three adult dogs in the truck was a little noisy but not too bad. After the first few minutes, the pups slept the rest of the trip. All puppies sold!

***Pups at 5 Weeks -- Rogue's Gallery*** This will be the first set of photos showing each puppy in the litter. They have now reached an age where almost every photo is blurred by their rapid motion. The pups are now fully weaned. I will be taking them down to Blue Springs Kennel in Winslow this weekend for a little variety, some travel experience, and some swim time. Pups are shown in order of birth: YM1 (Yellow Male 1), BM2, BM3, YM4, YM5, YF6, YF7, BM8, YF9, YF10, YM11, and BF12. Pictures are taken with a supoer wide angle lens from distances of a couple of feet. That can make heads look much larger than normal than they are in real life.

*** Pups at 4 Weeks *** At four weeks, the pups are showing some real personality. As is often the case, the two smallest pups are showing the most "attitude" with no fear of anything. I've been taking them around to different places so they get exposure to traveling in the truck and in crates. They have also had their first exposure to a live pigeon (they are still to young to really care) and their first exposure to wading in water. Mostly they are now beginning to follow and respond to excited "pup, pup, pup" sounds. They are largely weaned although Mom doesn't want to give up nursing them completely. I have to lock her out of the room and may soon take her back for a vacation with my trainers to get her dried up. One yellow male remains available.

*** Pups at 3 Weeks *** The puppies are now three weeks old. They ate their first "solid" food yesterday. Their eyes have been open for 4-5 days and are beginning to lose some of the blue tinge that you see when they first open. They are also at the point where at about 2 AM they all decide to hold a "town meeting" with enough noise to wake the entire household. Fortunately, that stage tends to end once they have adjusted better to regular food. The problem now is that their teeth have begun to emerge and mom is not willing to feed as long as they would like to be fed. All but a few of the pups have now been sold. A couple of yellow males and a yellow female are still available to the right homes. Over the next week, pups will be fully weaned and begin to go outside to play. Return to this page for updated notes and photos as the litter grows.

*** Mae and Pups at 9 Days *** Mae is looking pretty good for a dog who has been feeding 12 pups for the last nine days. The pups are doing well also. With such a large litter, some of the puppies were definitely on the small side at birth (8-9 ounces), but everyone has been gaining weight well and they now weight in at between 17 and 27 ounces. They are starting to move around more. Over the next week they should begin walking and opening their eyes. Photos are Mae, the yellow females, the black males, the black female, and the yellow males. Once their eyes open they will begin looking less like slugs and more like dogs.
